Saint-Malo in Brittany, cradle of PHYTOMER

MADE IN BRITTANY

As an independent French company, the origin of our ingredients and the quality of our products is very important to us. We prefer to source our ingredients locally and all of our products are manufactured, from start to finish, in our laboratory in the Bay of Mont Saint-Michel in northwestern France.

LOCAL ROOTS AND A SHORT SUPPLY CHAIN

Established in Saint-Malo since 1972, we chose Brittany for its exceptionally rich sea. With 2,700 km of coastline, it offers the greatest marine biodiversity in Europe.

The majority of our active ingredients are harvested just several kilometers from our offices and our laboratories in the bay of Mont Saint-Michel.

CULTIVATING ALGAE IN BRETON SEA

We have developed sustainable cultures of algae offshore, in protected areas, in order to control the quality of our ingredients and preserve marine resources.

Such is the case for Weaving Algae, a Laminaria brown algae capable of retaining water deep within the skin and preventing dehydration. Several kilometers from Saint-Malo, Weaving Algae is cultivated on ropes and harvested by hand between April and June.

CULTIVATING ALGAE IN OUR LABORATORIES IN THE BAY OF MONT SAINT-MICHEL

In our laboratories we cultivate the most fragile and endangered algae. This process makes it possible to use their beneficial cosmetic properties without needing to extract them from their natural environment and preserve marine biodiversity.

For example, Jania, a red algae that is exceptionally rich in calcium, is cultivated in photobioreactors. A unique process that our team of scientists have spent the last five years developing.

Jania can be cultivated and grown from a cutting put in sea water and given essential nutrients such as light.
